Lesson 2 SIRS

Discoverer - When looking up Shaun White there is a nice variety of articles many containing pictures. If students start going below the first 10 hits though there is quite a number of articles that are about other topics including Pride and Prejudice and Zombies; Terror Attacks and the Amastad all mixed in with Olympic Articles, as long as students read the summaries they should easily be able to stay on track.

I did a visual search in the leading issues section. It is very easy to use and helps students narrow topics down honing in on what they might find the most interesting. There is a nice selection of articles that can be further narrowed down and the Topic overview would be good to help students stay focused. In the curriculum pathfinders the subjects covered are quite varied. I looked at the language arts area and it covered a wide range of ideas and topics.

Lesson 1

World Book
Kids v Student
I looked up the Manatee. The amount of information provided in the World Book Kids section was minimal and seemed only useful for the youngest end of the K-5 grade range given. The World Book Student seemed much more appropriate for upper elementary and middle school and is more what you expect from World Book.

I looked up Ireland and the World Book Advanced is nicely set up with easy navigation to key points in the article. It is also handy to have related articles suggested on the sidebar.

The World Book Discover could be helpful to non-english readers by offering a translation function.
